Marches and Madness

What a refreshment of faith it was to see the annual March For Life in Washington attended by the President of the United States this year.  The President expressed his support for the pro-life “March for Life” in a speech from the White House Rose Garden Friday, applauding what he called an “incredible movement” and thanking those in attendance for embodying the theme of the march: “Love saves lives.”  Thousands watched just a few blocks away on the National Mall as the President addressed the rally via a live video. (Former Presidents Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and George W. Bush have also spoken at these rallies, but via recorded remarks or live phone calls.) Other speakers included Vice President Mike Pence, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Tim Tebow’s mother Pam, and   ex-NFL player Matt Birk and his wife Adriana. The speeches were all live streamed for people across the world to watch. After the speeches ended, protesters marched to the Supreme Court. The 45th annual march came just a week before the 45th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe vs. Wade ruling. Since 1973 there have been 60,069,971 estimated abortions in America.

No surprise that most news media outlets had nothing (or nothing good) to say about this march. Days after I still can’t find any solid commitments on the numbers that attended.  Estimates range from 50,000 to over 100,000. What did overshadow the event in the news was the government shut down which largely blamed the President…again. Oddly enough, the government shut down didn’t shut down the news on the second “Women’s” March that took place Saturday.  (“Women” is in quotes so that I don’t offend the millions of women who would not participate in such a hate-centered march where conservatives and pro-life supporters are purposely excluded.) Strangely, estimated numbers about this march abound in the news at 120,000+, and “others throughout the world!”

The news has become so one-sided and hateful these days that the only place that I can find positive information on our elected president and his administration is on FOX NEWS. I use to watch CNN, MSNBC, ALGEZERA and FOX in order to get a “balanced” view, since I know that no news media is perfectly balanced. I am tired of the constant whining and contempt shown towards this president who won fair and square. We have all endured the terms of many presidents that we didn’t vote for or like, but nonetheless accepted them as the president elected by the people.  Few of our presidents have been bastions of purity in character or speech but this one certainly gets kicked around more than any other in history. True, his digs and tweets keep providing fuel for the fire, but can’t we look beyond the flaws like we have with others and see both sides of the coin? Enough already with the “Russian Collusion” thing!  False accusations have now turned upon the accusers and degraded our FBI the DOJ and our whole system of justice. The #MeToo movement is also a growing circus which attracts unlimited clowns.  Who can know which women are telling the truth and which ones are just being paid to tell lies? When people are tried and convicted in social media only stupidity is the ringmaster. Why should we believe every woman who boldly steps up to say they were sexually harassed after 5, 10, 20, or 30 years has passed?  Is “Me Too” just another pop culture thing to belong to or is it a legitimate movement? I can’t see the forest for the trees!  I’m not saying that there are not some sick and twisted men out there who take advantage of women, but I’m not ready to say that there are no sick and twisted women out there who take advantage of men either. In fact I know of some firsthand. I also know of both men and women who once acted and talked like sex was a sport and now, with growth and maturity, think and act more sensibly. I do hope that America can get to such a place.

Back to the marches… We live in America where anyone can march for whatever they want. People can say whatever they want and do whatever they want. They can also write and promote anything they want.  This is what some say makes America great.  Looking closely I think we can also see the downside of such a philosophy.  I want to march to the beat of a different drummer, in fact, I heard an old song by the Imperials the other day that says it perfectly.  The chorus says:

I listen to the Trumpet of Jesus
While the world hears a different sound
I march to the drumbeat of God Almighty
While the others just wander around
I’m a member of the Holy Ghost traveling band
We’re moving on up to a better land
I hear the voice of the Supernatural singing
Like only those who know Him can

Trumpet of Jesus by Russ Taft/ Imperials: Priority

The march can only be as good as the leader and the news can only be as true and good as the author. Come Lord Jesus, come.
